I was a 4 year student athlete at Duke University (football) and graduated in 1975. After graduation I became an assistant football coach, both at Duke and at the University of Virginia. I received my Masters of Education, in Guidance and Counseling from Duke, during this period.
In 1981 I joined American Hospital Supply as a sales representative and began a career in Healthcare which has lasted 42 years - American Hospital Supply, Baxter Healthcare, Allegiance Healthcare and Cardinal Health. In reality, because of mergers, acquisitions and spin-offs, essentially the same company.
I work today with SunMed, a small medical device manufacturer owned by Dempsey Ventures, a private investment firm. Dempsey is owned by a gentleman that worked for me when I was a Regional President with Baxter in Phoenix in 1994. I have been involved with private equity owned companies since 2004.
Kim and I have moved back to Scottsdale after 7 years in the Dallas area (Frisco). Scottsdale is our primary residence and we have summer home in the Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach area in North Carolina.
I officially retired in April this past year (2022). Worked in an Advisory role until 12.31.2022. I am now fully retired. Today I work with George Pratt ( my financial advisor w/ UBS) managing our investments. I spend time working on my golf game, honing my guitar playing skills and traveling with Kim. This fall we have a cruise in the Greek Isles/ Aegean Sea. Very busy not working.

High School was a great time for me. I developed some wonderful friendships and started to learn a little about what life had in store. I parlayed high school athletic and academic success into a great college experience at Duke University. The Duke environment helped me to forge myself into the successful business person and family man that I am today. It was through Duke that I met my wife. Actually my wife, Kim, is the younger sister of my 4 year college roommate and Duke Football teammate, Mark Johnson. Both Mark and Kim graduated from Oxon Hill High School in Prince Georges County in 1971 and 1972 respectively.
Success is always built upon preparation, hard work and perseverance-- WJ provided a laboratory for me to hone those skills. For that opportunity I will always be grateful.
One regret that I have always had is not having had the opportunity to spend significant time in the DC/Maryland area. I have had to work to stay connected to my WJ experience and my good high school friends.
On a very positive note I have been able to reconnect with my oldest friend, George Pratt. George and I met in the 3rd grade and have been friends ever since. He was an usher in our wedding, a high school teammate and the very best of friends. Through no fault of anyone we became disconnected for many years until about 10 years ago. We have redoubled our efforts and now communicate on a regular basis, much to my extreme pleasure. George and I have much in common and i look forward to seeing much more of George, Sandra and his kids. This also can be said for Jack, Doug, Paul, Billy, Pete and John. Great friends and wonderful guys.
